Amid this chaos emerges a figure of hope and valour: Prince Alexander, known as Alexander Nevsky, played with commanding majesty by Nikolay Cherkasov.

Alexander Nevsky, a charismatic leader shrouded in legends, had retreated to a peaceful life by a lake after being dismissed by boyars (noblemen). However, given the dire circumstances, he is drawn once again into the world of conflict and power play. His recognition as a leader and his call to arms to defend the city against the impending invasion forms the foundation of the narrative.

Nikolai Okhlopkov's character, Vasili Buslai, adds a layer of complexity and intrigue to the film, functioning as both comic relief and a symbol of the common man's courage.
