Brahman Naman

Their education, intellect and trivia contests serve as a refuge from their mundane lives and their average socio-economic status that notably contrasts against the upper-caste Brahmin status they cherish. The plot takes an interesting turn when they embark on a journey to Calcutta to participate in an all-India quiz competition, which serves as a perfect setup for some humorous yet poignant encounters.

Brahman Naman strays from typical Bollywood themes and narratives, with a storyline that takes an unflinching look at the struggles of adolescent sexuality, caste dynamics, and the pressures of growing up in a conservative environment. The movie paints an authentic picture of the societal expectations and dilemmas faced by upper-caste Indian youth in the 80s. This film analyzes the idea of intellectual arrogance in a deeply stratified society and the presumptions of superiority that come with it through its characters.
