Congo

Congo is a 1995 American science fiction action/adventure film loosely based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name. Released nearly two years after the success of Jurassic Park, another film adaptation of a Michael Crichton's novel, Congo is directed by Frank Marshall, with a screenplay by John Patrick Shanley. The film stars an ensemble cast featuring Laura Linney, Tim Curry, Dylan Walsh, Ernie Hudson, and other notable actors.

Laura Linney, versatile as ever, portrays the tough and resourceful Karen Ross, a former CIA operative now working for a communications company. Ross embarks on a perilous mission to Africa on behalf of her employer, Travis, to locate a precious blue diamond, a source of immense potential power that can revolutionize the communications industry. Her search for the legendary diamond also intertwines with finding her fiancé, who had disappeared while on a similar pursuit.

Meanwhile, in an entirely different quest for treasures of the past, the eccentric Romanian philanthropist Herkermer Homolka, played by the legendary Tim Curry with his magnetic screen presence, joins the team. His obsession with the Lost City of Zinj and its mythical diamond mines draw him to the African continent.

Two of the more complex characters in the plot are Monroe Kelly (Ernie Hudson), a mercenary-cum-guide with a droll sense of humour and deep understanding of Africa, and Captain Munro (Joe Don Baker), a seasoned expat. They play crucial roles in leading the team through the untamed heart of Africa.

As the trails of the trio's different quests converge deep into the African rainforests, they encounter dangers and wonders beyond their wildest imaginations. From deafening thunderstorms and dangerous rapids to treacherous warlords and aggressive wildlife, the African heartland is brutal yet bewitching, captivating yet cruel.

Their arrival in the fabled Lost City of Zinj instigates a high-intensity unfolding of events involving the elusive diamonds, lost technology, treasure hunters, and a species of super-intelligent, hyper-aggressive gorillas.
