Delta Farce

Delta Farce is a 2007 American war comedy film directed by C.B. Harding, starring well-known comedic actors, Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and DJ Qualls. The film features these actors as small-town buddies who are weekend soldiers for the US Army Reserve.

In this movie, the three main characters, Larry, Bill, and Everette, portrayed by Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and DJ Qualls, respectively, are introduced as good ol’ Southern boys who generally spend their time doing ordinary jobs. Living in their hometown, they juggle the routine of daily life with their service as reservists in the military. When not serving, they engage in typical hobbies, with Larry being a divorced warehouse worker keen on arm wrestling, Bill an underpaid and ignored husband, and Everette a friendly but not so bold guy living with his mother. The story takes a momentum when this easygoing trio gets a call of duty for the reserve.

They are summoned to be part of a mission in Iraq. With a wide range of feelings, the three embark on this mission under the command of Sgt. Kilgore, a stern and strict sergeant known for his disciplinarian leadership. However, they are mistakenly dropped off in Mexico instead of Iraq due to a series of misadventures. Disoriented and clueless in an unfamiliar foreign territory, they assume it to be Iraq.

The complexity of the storyline unfolds as they encounter locals of a small Mexican village who are under the oppressive control of a dangerous bandit, Carlos Santana, not to be confused with the famed musician. Believing to be in the middle of a war zone, the three friends assume themselves to be doing their job correctly in defiance of the enemy. The townsfolk, who are unfamiliar with the English language, consider the soldiers as liberators against Santana's tyranny.

Far from the deserts of Iraq, this trio of characters keeps wearing their camouflage, naively mistaking the Mexican desert for the battlegrounds of Iraq, hence the title, Delta Farce. With the relentless engagement in slapstick and hillbilly humor, they are in the middle of much laughter and bizarre escapades.

As the narrative weaves its tale further, it exhibits a knack for the buddy comedy pattern and a gloating fest of social ridicule where our 'heroes' endeavor to free the village from Carlos Santana's tyranny whilst under the impression they're waging a 'war'.

The comedy of errors encapsulates a mixture of situations that include weapon mishaps, to a play on cultural differences between the American South and Mexico. Each scene ultimately increasing the level of comic absurdity throughout the narrative.

Delta Farce is typified by its slapstick comedy and well-intentioned, but buffoonish protagonists.
