Embrace of the Irrational

Embrace of the Irrational is an educational video (think PBS mid 90s) that completely collapses into itself becoming the very thing it is attempting to explain. Written and directed by the fictitious Martin Thebes, it centers around a meditation on the Romantics' ideal of emotional confusion as a way to find truth. But the film slowly unravels and becomes mired in technical and interpersonal crisis among the cast, crew and producers. The end result is a film that breaks down twice, the first time revealing the fictitious crew and the second time the real crew, including Herschend as the films director. Embrace hovers somewhere between truth, fiction and the confusion of our daily experience.
