Flightplan is a unique blend of mystery, suspense and drama that was released in 2005. The movie is directed by Robert Schwentke and boasts a strong ensemble with the leading roles played by the Oscar-winning Jodie Foster, Peter Sarsgaard, and Sean Bean.

She, along with her six-year-old daughter Julia, is all set to take her husband’s body from Berlin to New York. However, the non-stop flight on a state-of-the-art jumbo airplane, the E-474 that she helped design, takes an unexpected turn.

The core of the story initiates when Kyle drifts asleep for a few hours during the flight only to wake up and find that her daughter Julia (Marlene Lawston) has mysteriously disappeared. The puzzling part is that none of the passengers or the flight crew remember seeing her daughter. What initially seems to be a case of a missing child, soon escalates into a paradox as the airline staff fails to find evidence of Julia ever being on the plane.

Direly frustrated, Kyle persistently attempts to convince the disbelieving flight crew and passengers about the existence of her daughter on the airplane. Peter Sarsgaard takes on the character of a skeptical air marshal Gene Carson, who doubts Kyle's story due to a lack of evidence. He becomes a pivotal character in the movie standing between Kyle and her relentless pursuit to uncover the truth.

Sean Bean, on the other hand, performs excellently as the flight's Captain Marcus Rich, who is left torn between conducting a thorough and disruptive search of the plane and prioritising the wellbeing of the rest of the passengers. The tension escalates mile by mile, minute by minute, making the situation all the more gripping and intense.

The dynamics between the key characters portrayed by Jodie Foster and Peter Sarsgaard, and their epitomizing performances breathe life into the movie.
