Go Goa Gone

Go Goa Gone is a unique Indian zombie comedy directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., and produced by Saif Ali Khan. Kemmu and Das's characters are shown as slackers with Hardik depicted as a marijuana enthusiast and Luv as a lovelorn heartbroken soul, just dumped by his girlfriend. They both are aimless, barely holding onto their jobs with rather lax attitudes. Anand Tiwari, on the other hand, is the complete antithesis of his two friends - a dedicated workaholic who is often the target of their mischief and jests.

The plot takes an adventurous turn when hard-working Bunny is assigned a project in Goa and the other two friends decide to tag along. Meanwhile, they cross paths with Luna, played by Puja Gupta, a free-spirited girl, and Boris, an eccentric character portrayed by Saif Ai Khan who adds a flavour of mystery to the story. Bored and broke, Hardik and Luv decide to attend a rave party on a remote island off Goa's coast, which sets them off on an unexpected, thrilling voyage into a world they never could have imagined.

The party they attend, organized by the gangster-like Russian mafia headed by Boris, promises to be full of crazy fun and ecstasy. The party, however, takes an outlandish turn when pink pills, handed out for free, unleash a havoc that wasn't part of the plan. Awaking from their party-induced stupor, Hardik and Luv find themselves in the midst of a Zombie apocalypse.

From here on, the storyline dives into full-fledged horror-comedy territory replete with tension, humour, and moments of camaraderie between friends. The unusual and humour-laced struggles of the protagonists trying to make sense of this astounding quandary has been creatively showcased by the directors.

Saif Ali Khan gives a commendable performance as Boris, a half-Indian, half-Russian mafia man who believes he's the Zombie killer India didn't know it needed. With his blond hairdo, offbeat Russian-tinged Hindi, and tough guy persona, Saif steals the show with his whimsical portrayal.

On the other hand, Kunal, Vir, and Anand share an electrifying chemistry while navigating through unexpected chaos. Their comic timing is impeccable and the trio successfully creates some rib-tickling moments. Puja Gupta, too, convincingly plays the role of Luna, adding feminine charm and wit to the narrative.

What separates Go Goa Gone from other zombie movies is its distinctive blend of Bollywood-style humour and the classic Hollywood zombie apocalypse theme. The concept, distinctly new to Indian cinema, has been executed with a sparkling dose of fun and excitement. The screenplay is highly entertaining, dialogues are funny and, despite the horror element, the movie never loses its intrinsic sense of humour.

The directors have successfully ensured that the comedy doesn’t cut into the horror and vice versa. The balance is well maintained throughout, making the film a thoroughly enjoyable watch. The film’s cinematography brilliantly captures the beauty and eeriness of its Goan setting and the makeup and special effects are commendably done, lending credibility to the zombie theme.
