Gumrah is a captivating Bollywood film released in 1993, featuring some of the key artists of the era - Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt. 'Ashamed of her unprivileged upbringing', Sridevi as Roshni Chadha, is the central character of Gumrah. She lives with her brother (Anupam Kher), who just manages to scrape by and provide for her. She dreams of escaping from this life, searching for a way out of her harsh circumstances.

In this journey, Roshni falls victim to a planned deception which she remains oblivious to. She falls in love with a suave and charming man, Rahul Malhotra played by Rahul Roy, who promises her luxuries and delivers despair. The antagonist brings about circumstances grave enough to cast a dark shadow over Roshni's life, pushing her into the gritty world of crime, a far cry from the luxurious lifestyle that was promised.

Sanjay Dutt as Jaggu, a convict with a golden heart, comes in as a beacon of light in Roshni's life. His character is affectionate, understanding, and heroic. His relationship with Roshni, which sprouts in an unfavourable setting, adds a romantic element to this multifaceted film. The connection they share shows the power of humanity and the healing potential of compassion.

As Roshni’s life spirals out of control, witnessing her dreams crumble, she becomes stronger and starts to fight back against her circumstances. The narrative follows her struggle against systemic corruption, her fight to stay in touch with her humanity amidst deplorable conditions, and eventually, her plan to free herself from the unexpected mess she finds herself in.
