Home Alone 3 is a 1997 American comedy film directed by Raja Gosnell and produced by John Hughes. It is the third installment of the immensely popular Home Alone series, although it features an entirely new cast, distinguishing it from the first two movies. This family-friendly film continues the same thread of physical humor, clever traps, and heartwarming moments.

In the film, Alex Pruitt, effectively played by a young and dynamic Alex D. Linz, serves as the new protagonist. Set in a quiet suburb of Chicago, the story begins when Alex is diagnosed with chickenpox, which keeps him home alone while his parents are at work, and his siblings at school.

The plot revolves around a clandestine gadget, a top-secret Air Force microchip, ingeniously hidden inside a toy car which has mistakenly landed in Alex’s hands. While this technological marvel is capable of controlling military satellites and turning them into powerful offensive weapons, four internationally wanted criminals are hell-bent on retrieving it. The quartet of thieves, played by Olek Krupa, Rya Kihlstedt, David Thornton, and Lenny von Dohlen, travel overseas undercover as ordinary suburbanites, hoping to seize back the gadget without causing much fuss.

However, Alex, using his binoculars and observing their suspicious activities around the neighborhood, quickly suspects their intentions. Making matters worse, his calls to the local police raise little to no alarm, given that he's an eight-year-old with an overactive imagination. Consequently, Alex takes it upon himself to protect his home, the toy car, and the safety of his neighborhood.

Home Alone 3 creatively utilizes the proven formula of its predecessors, which involves the young hero setting up a variety of innovative and hilarious booby traps for the clueless villains. This key aspect of the story provides the film with its signature moments of physical comedy, much in line with the spirit of the first two films. Guided by his own distinctly childlike perspective, Alex transforms his home into a veritable fortress of creative traps and strategies.
