Set against the backdrop of Dehradun, India, the iconic movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar beautifully encapsulates the spirit of healthy competition, the essence of true sportsmanship, the trials and tribulations of adolescence, and the power of love and friendship.

The story revolves around the life of Sanjaylal Sharma, brilliantly portrayed by talented Aamir Khan, an underachieving, mischievous teenager, who lives in a boarding school run by his strict elder brother, Ratanlal Sharma, played by Mamik Singh. The brothers, despite their ups and downs, share a beautiful bond etched in deep respect.

Sanju, as he is fondly known, is more interested in pranks and escapades than his studies. Irreverent towards the annual Inter-School Cycling Championship that his brother and father respect profoundly, he rather spends his time traipsing around with his girl-crazy pals and falling for the rich and sophisticated Devika, played by Pooja Bedi. His brother Ratan, on the other hand, is a more serious and diligent student, passionately preparing for the prestigious cycling race, carrying their father's legacy forward.

The character of Anjali, portrayed by Ayesha Jhulka, gives the movie a beautiful friendship subplot. Anjali is Sanju's childhood friend and has a secret crush on him. However, her love remains unrequited as Sanju is too smitten by the glamorous Devika. This layer of friendship, unexpressed feelings, and heartbreak adds a compelling emotional layer to the film.

Deepak Tijori plays Shekhar, the antagonist of the story, who is the reigning cycling champ studying at the elite Rajput College. Shekhar and the students of Rajput College are arrogant and disrespectful towards the students of Model College, the school where Sanjay and Ratan study. The rivalry between schools mounts into a fierce competition, climaxing in the Inter-School Cycling Championship.

The movie subtly weaves different themes of coming of age, heartbreaks, self-discovery, rivalries, socio-economic class division, perseverance, and redemption. Director Mansoor Khan brilliantly showcases the class divide between two groups of youngsters in Dehradun - the elite and affluent versus the middle class and poor.
