When Chris (Wilson) and Lisa (Washington) move in, Abel immediately becomes a thorn in their side. Despite being an enforcer of the law, he ignites a personal crusade to make life uncomfortable for the young couple from the outset, using his authority as a veteran cop and the obvious racial differences to exert his power. The competitive tension between the men escalitates, exacerbating Abel's hostility and threatening to disturb the peaceful life of the neighborhood.

Victoria (Kerry Washington) soon finds herself in a challenging position. She is a loving and committed wife who wants to support her husband but also fears Abel's combative and threatening behavior, causing her to question the safety of their living situation.
