Lawless is a gritty but remarkably well-replicated period film about the world of illegal moonshine during Prohibition-era America, directed by John Hillcoat. His sleek charm, combined with an unsettling brutality creates an unforgettable villain.

Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska also feature in this film. Chastain's character, Maggie Beauford, embarks on a romantic relationship with Hardy's character, bringing a soft contrast to the harsh world of crime. Wasikowska as Bertha Minnix, a preacher's daughter that Jack falls for, also adds a softer touch and offers a glimpse into Jack's more vulnerable side.

Moreover, the screenplay by famed musician and writer Nick Cave is both visceral and engaging. Combined with a prominent score crafted by Cave and Warren Ellis, their soundtracks enhance the storytelling experience to create a distinct aura of this torrid era.
