She refuses to deal with the loss, which becomes evident as she sternly believes that the disappearance was definitely a goof-up. From her viewpoint, it is just a matter of time before he shows up at home.

Alongside this, Lindsey is battling personal struggles — she's divorcing her high school sweetheart, burdened under a mountain of debt, and having a hard time keeping her life afloat. Her complicated family dynamics become even more apparent as her mother, played by Stacy Edwards, is revealed to be battling mental illness, while her younger brother is a burgeoning internet celebrity. All these factors contribute to Lindsey's desperation to remain in a state of denial about her father's fate.

Instead of succumbing to her current situation, Lindsey decides to take action. She goes on a personal quest to find her father — or so she convinces herself — in the midst of her chaotic life. Her decision to search for her father is also, in part, an escape for Lindsey from confronting her own life issues and disappointments.

Actor Tyler Christopher plays the role of Jerry Charm, a former professional Football player, who becomes a key person in Lindsey's life. His journey intersects with Lindsey’s as he wrestles with his own set of problems and coming to terms with his past. Their earthly relationship brings a touch of romantic subplot to the story, as they discover common ground in their personal struggles and find comfort in each other's company.
