Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright

Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright is a feature-length animation filled wit mystery, humor, endearing characters and, of course, lots of sightings of 'creepy' monsters. This film, released in 2013, revolves around the beloved gang of mystery solvers - Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and their charismatic Great Dane, Scooby-Doo.

We open with the group from Mystery Inc. heading to Chicago for a talent show, aptly named "Talent Star," the final act of which is scheduled to take place at an opera house that is supposedly haunted. At the heart of this film, there's a love story, with lead characters Fred and Daphne participating in the competition as a duo, their act being a performance of Daphne’s original song. This opportunity also serves as a chance for Fred to express his deep-rooted feelings towards Daphne, making his experience all the more nerve-wracking.

The theater where the talent show is held has a rich backstory, steeped in legend. It's a haunted opera house that is reportedly terrorized by a ghastly phantom, a chilling nod to 'The Phantom of the Opera'. The theater is plagued with uncanny accidents and chilling scares that are suspected to be the phantom’s doing, providing the ideal opportunity for Mystery Inc. to dive into a new ambiguous world of spooks and fright.

Mindy Cohn as Velma Dinkley brings an unparalleled intelligence and wit to her character, whilst also offering a warmth in her performance.

There are a host of guest characters that offer plenty of red herrings in classic Scooby-Doo fashion, creating vivid performances that make everyone a possible suspect. Part of what makes Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright so enjoyable is trying to guess who could be behind the mask this time. Could it be the notoriously grumpy stage manager, the overly nervous performers, or perhaps one of the show's overzealous fans?

The film is also rich in humour, with Shaggy and Scooby adding to the overall comic relief with their funny banter and their endless appetites. There are certainly plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that will capture the interest of the audience, whether young or old.
