Sea Fever

Sea Fever is a gripping sci-fi horror film released in 2019. It was written and directed by Neasa Hardiman and stars Hermione Corfield, Dag Malmberg, and Jack Hickey, amongst others. Consumed by an irrational dread, paranoia permeates the crew as they grapple with the unknown dangers lurking underwater. Siobhán's fear of social interaction soon pales in comparison to the threat that lies beneath the ocean.

She endeavours to solve the source of the nightmarish calamity inflicted upon the crew with her knowledge in marine biology while battling her personal fear. Dag Malmberg and Jack Hickey offer solid performances as weary seafarers who come face-to-face with the cruel, remorseless forces of nature. Malmberg's character represents the old guard of the sailors, hardened by years of dealing with the brutal ocean's whims. Still, he's rendered helpless when faced with an adversary that defies understanding or taming. Hickey, on the other hand, represents the younger and recklessly brave who're ill-prepared for the menacing dilemma they get ensnared in.

'Sea Fever' leans heavily on metaphorical storytelling and emphasizes the chilling isolation of its setting. The sound design and scoring contribute significantly to its gradually building tension, and the cinematography effectively combines the claustrophobic confines of the ship with the boundless, disquieting sea.
