Stardust

The movie Stardust is a marvelous romantic fantasy adventure film directed by the commendable Matthew Vaughn in 2007. Its stellar cast list includes Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, and Sienna Miller.

The narrative begins in the Victorian-era English village of Wall, located on the edge of a magical world that exists unseen to the villagers. The village gets its name from the old stone wall that borders it. However, there is one point in that wall where the world of humans touches the world of magic, a portal to the parallel realm. The villagers of Wall are, throughout their lives, strictly forbidden from crossing, adding to the enchantment and intrigue of the unseen world beyond.

Charlie Cox plays the role of Tristan Thorn, the village's young, unassuming resident who is hopelessly in love with Victoria Forester, performed by Sienna Miller, the most beautiful girl in Wall. When Victoria seems indifferent towards his sentiments, a disheartened Tristan vows to fetch her a fallen star they both noticed to prove his love. This promise leads Tristan to cross the forbidden wall to unveil a world unbeknown to him.

Beyond the wall, Tristan discovers the star isn't what he and any other mortal thought it'd be. In an enchanting turn of events, the star he sought is an actual woman, Yvaine, who is luminously portrayed by Claire Danes. She had fallen from the sky due to a collision with a jewel sent there by a dying king. The king had proclaimed that the one who retrieves the jewel will be his successor, setting his four sons on a frantic race to find it.

Unbeknownst to Tristan and Yvaine, various other forces are also at play in this parallel realm. The witch-queen Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer) and her sisters are keenly searching for the star that can restore their dwindling youth. The fallen star and the jewel become the objects of desire for many fronts - each is willing to go to great lengths to obtain the coveted entities.

As Yvaine and Tristan embark on a journey to return to Wall, they traverse through this magical world, filled with pirates, unicorns, witches, and princes. Peter O’Toole as the dying King of Stormhold, and Mark Strong as his ruthless son Prince Septimus, add more dimensions to the blend of characters. Robert De Niro exudes charisma in his role of Captain Shakespeare, the flamboyant air pirate with an intimidating reputation and a tender reality.
