But beyond their professional lives, Maria and José’s humble apartment is a warm meeting place where their friends, who are mostly fellow immigrant workers, gather to share meals, laughter, and the nostalgia for their homeland.

An unexpected twist arrives when they inherit a family winery in Portugal. The prospect of going back to Portugal, to their roots, and leaving their current life behind presents a bitter-sweet dilemma for the couple. It's an opportunity to return to their homeland and embrace a peaceful life amidst Portugal's serene winemaking countryside. But the thought of leaving behind the life they’ve built in Paris, along with their grown-up children and circle of friends, puts them in a quandary. Their friends and their affluent employers alike are distraught by the idea of losing their indispensable Maria and José.

The film particularly shines in its depiction of the various stages of immigration. It sensitively balances the homesickness experienced by the first-generation immigrants with the second generation's perplexing identity crisis, the struggle between their ethnic roots and the culture they’ve grown up with.
