Crowded is an American sitcom that hails from the NBC network, featuring a stellar cast, including Patrick Warburton, Carrie Preston, Miranda Cosgrove, and Stacy Keach. The series, which made its debut on NBC in 2016, revolves around a couple who thinks they have finally reclaimed their freedom as their two grown daughters leave home, only for the girls to move back in shortly thereafter.
Patrick Warburton, who has built his career with uniquely humorous roles, embodies Mike Moore, the man of the Moore family. Mike is a good-natured and fair-minded guy. He plays an airline pilot with a sarcastic side and is also a devoted family man. His profession often leaves him away from the madness leaving his wife to handle the issues at home. He cherishes his moments of peace and quiet and dreams of leading a simpler life once his children finally leave the nest.
Carrie Preston, who’s well-known for her dramatic roles, gives a fantastic performance as Martina, Mike's wife. As a therapist, Martina is patient, understanding, and the sane one of the family. However, just like Mike, she is looking forward to reclaiming a central part of their identities: life as a carefree couple. Life had other plans for them when their daughters decided to move back in, turning their world into complete chaos, but Martina takes it in stride.
Miranda Cosgrove, a well-loved Nickelodeon alum, effortlessly switches her style to play Shea, one of Mike and Martina’s grown-up daughters who returns to their parents' home after college. Brilliant but socially inept, Shea has her sights set on a challenging career path. However, the real world is a lot more demanding than she anticipates, and she takes a step back by returning home to live with her parents.
Stacy Keach, a seasoned actor who needs no introduction, steps into the role of Bob, Martina’s dad. Bob is a robust, opinionated former police officer who lives with his daughter and son-in-law in a separate but small ‘granny flat’ attached to the house. His brash personality and no-nonsense approach to life often lead to comedic crises in the Moore household, contributing to the chaos.
The show is a combination of multi-generational comedy and family drama, where two worlds collide in the most hilarious way possible. Crowded explores the dynamics of a full house and how the character’s lives fill with unexpected turns of events. It dives into present-day family scenarios where adult children find themselves moving back in with their parents, thereby giving a comedic twist to the 'boomerang generation' debate.
One of the key aspects of Crowded is its relevance to the audience since many families, in reality, face similar situations. It highlights the issues and clashes that arise when adult children have to co-habit with their parents, something that the concept of 'empty nesters' or parents living alone once their children leave for college or work generally overlooks.
Crowded's theme is family and the lengths to which each one would go for each other, irrespective of the arguments and squabbles. Each episode provides a fresh take on family dynamics, full of humor and heart. The series uses comedy as a lens to offer a poignant reflection on evolving familial roles and relationships, underscored by the fact that family is irreplaceable, no matter how tireless or chaotic.
Despite the vivid spots of chaos and drama that seem to envelop the Moore family's existence, Mike, Martina, Shea, and Bob manage to turn their continuous misadventures into a lovable, comedy sitcom. Crowded indeed lives up to its name, a packed house filled with hilarious moments, heartfelt reality, and everything in between.
Despite airing only for a brief period, Crowded's humor and heart resonated with audiences. The series continues to provoke laughs as it juggles the complexities of family life, succeeding in its goal of delivering genuine family entertainment. Be it an empty nester thinking of the serene days ahead or a young adult dreading a move back to the parents' house, there’s something in the show that speaks to us all.
Crowded is a series categorized as a canceled/ended. Spanning 1 seasons with a total of 13 episodes, the show debuted on 2016. The series has earned a moderate reviews from both critics and viewers. The IMDb score stands at 6.4.
