Defiance

Defiance is a compelling science fiction drama television series that aired from 2013 to 2015 on Syfy. The show is set in the near future, following the events of a near-apocalyptic war between humans and alien races collectively known as Votans. Notably, Tony Curran and Jaime Murray play Datak Tarr and Stahma Tarr respectively, members of the cunning and at times ruthless Castithan alien race. They serve as an embodiment of the complex socio-political structure within Defiance, as Datak and Stahma wield influence through their criminal enterprises and political maneuvering, contributing to the town's balance of power.

Graham Greene as Rafe McCawley represents another perspective, playing as a human miner who is not entirely open to the idea of integrating humans and aliens. He's caught between his hard-edged beliefs and the undeniable reality that cooperation may be the only path toward survival.

Mia Kirshner plays Kenya Rosewater, Amanda's spunky sister who runs the local tavern and brothel, offering weary travelers some semblance of comfort and companionship. Kenya's humane approach to her trade and acceptance of all in her establishment offers viewers a glimpse into the heart of Defiance – a town that thrives on unity in diversity, despite its flaws.

The series is also enriched by younger characters, such as Alak Tarr (Jesse Rath), Datak and Stahma's son. Alak embodies a new generation striving to break free from old biases and prejudices. James Murray plays the sly and mysterious Niles Pottinger, whose motivations and true alliances always keep viewers guessing.

Defiance features an array of complex and multi-dimensional characters, depicted by an exceptional cast. Despite the differences in race, language, and customs, there is a shared ambition for survival and prosperity in the rugged new world.
