Newcomers won't feel alienated by convoluted backstory or need-to-know canon.

For returning fans, while it does carry a distinct tone and style compared to its predecessors, Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Border 1: Ghost Pain still holds the philosophical and existential underpinnings that have come to define the franchise. This series is not only a worthy addition to the extensive lore of the universe but also a beautiful standalone piece of cyberpunk anime, providing a fresh but familiar take on the universe that fans have come to love.
