Mixels

Mixels was a captivating children's animated television series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2014 to 2016. The show was a joint venture between two of the largest brand entities, LEGO and Cartoon Network, further heightening the interest and popularity surrounding it. Mixels was also tied into a LEGO theme, introducing new physical sets with every series installment, thus amplifying the connecting factor between fans, the show and the product, enabling a delightfully imaginative physical-digital play.

Mixels was set in a richly diverse and colorful world inhabited by groups of small, jigsaw-like creatures known as Mixels. These entities were characterized as small, creative beings living in tribes, each assigned a unique elemental theme such as fire, ice, electricity, rock, and so on. Within this world of Mixels, the universe was divided into distinct regions, each home to a different tribe of Mixel, reflecting the respective elemental theme of the tribe.

The characters in Mixels had the distinctive trait of being capable of combining with one another. They had the inherent ability to mix (merge into a stronger, bigger Mixel), max (merge into a significantly larger, more powerful Mixel) or murp (unexpectedly merge into a not necessarily beneficial outcome). This animated cocktail of transformations, coupled with the series' problem-solving adventures, was one of the main attractions of the show, effectively conveying the theme of teamwork and cooperation.

Not all was peaches and cream in the Mixel world, however. The Mixels had foes called the "Nixels", black and white creatures who were a stark contrast to the color-drenched world of the Mixels. The Nixels were intent on causing chaos and destruction, tearing apart the combinations of Mixels and encouraging discord, hence becoming the central antagonists of the series.

The show's storyline revolved around the daily adventures, mishaps and discoveries of these tribes of Mixels, as well as their consistent attempts to thwart the plans of the Nixels. Each episode served up a blend of humor, fun, mischief, and thrill. Mixels relied heavily on slapstick humor and visually appealing animation to entertain its young audience, while also dealing with themes of friendship, unity, and collaboration.

The visual style of Mixels was deeply rooted within the aesthetic of LEGO. The animation had a pronounced 3D block-style, reflecting the essence of the LEGO brand. Moreover, the colors used were bright and contrasting, producing vibrant, attention-grabbing visuals that were highly appealing to the targeted demographic. The series also had a fast-paced nature, with action, comedy and even a bit of absurdity intertwined, making it a whirlwind of entertainment.

Mixels had an interesting episode format, with each episode typically lasting around two minutes.
