Commander Shore's blinkered approach and Atlanta's unexpressed feelings add interesting subplot dynamics in the series.

The main antagonist of the series is King Titan, the tyrant who rules the undersea city of Titanica. He is bitter towards the surface dwellers and often engineers schemes to create chaos and assert his dominance. X20, Titan's surface agent who lives in solitude on a deserted island, often assists him in his evil plans.

Stingray is renowned as the third marionette puppet TV show by the husband and wife team of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, using 'Supermarionation'.
