Syfy’s Superstition, which aired from 2017 to 2018, is a genre-bending rollercoaster that defies traditional television boundaries, blending elements of supernatural thriller, horror, and family drama into one riveting narrative.

Heading the family is the charismatic and fiercely protective patriarch, Isaac "The Infinitely Inquisitive" Mosley. Isaac is a man with an extraordinary past and an even more incredible collection of unique abilities, making him one of the most captivating characters of the series. Alongside him is his comparison-loving and wise wife, and partner in supernatural defense, Bea Mosley. Bea’s knowledge of arcane artifacts and extraordinary ability to identify supernatural threats make her an indispensable asset in their never-ending battle against the lurking supernatural threats.

Their son Calvin, formerly an M.I.T graduate turned Army reject, reluctantly returns home and quickly finds himself in the thick of the family business. While initially mythical skeptic, Calvin's return to his hometown exposes him to the harsh realities of his family's unusual occupation. He adds new layers to the Mosley family dynamic as he grapples with his newfound abilities and responsibilities, often clashing with his father's inflexible methods.

In Superstition, the audience is introduced to a menagerie of supernatural entities and paranormal creatures that have existed in folklore and horror stories for centuries. Everything from vengeful spirits, witches, to demons, all of which are brought to life with striking special effects that enhance the fright factor of a series.

The series also does a fantastic job of exploring the complexities and nuances of the African-American experience, utilising Afrocentric folklore and mythology as a backdrop in a predominantly Caucasian-centered genre. It brings a refreshing blend of diverse representation to the supernatural narrative, weaving in the rich tapestry of African American culture.

The writing for Superstition is smart, intricate, and layered, balancing the light with the dark and detailing the trials and tribulations faced by the Mosley family both in their supernatural endeavors and their personal lives. Every episode is richly detailed and filled with enough suspense and intrigue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. From the Mosley’s protective actions, the threats they face, to the sometimes tricky personal experiences they encounter, the plot is constantly moving forward, always leaving viewers eager for the next episode.
